Physiotherapy is a primary care profession dedicated to improving the quality of life by:


  • Promoting optimal mobility, physical activity and overall wellness.
  • Preventing disease, injury and disability.
  • Managing acute and chronic conditions, activity limitations and participation restrictions.
  • Improving and maintaining optimal functional independence and physical performance.
  • Rehabilitating injury and the effects of disease or disability with therapeutic exercise programs and other interventions.
  • Educating and planning maintenance and support programs to prevent re-occurrence, re-injury or functional decline.


A Registered Physiotherapist will assess you using detailed history taking, performing special physical and functional tests and measures in order to analyze the assessment findings and use clinical reasoning to establish an appropriate treatment plan.


At Bayview Rehabilitation Center Toronto, we pride ourselves with providing customized client-centered care. The number of sessions required before you improve is dependent on a variety of factors including pain tolerance, the length of time you have had your symptoms, you medical history, and your compliance with your personalized treatment plan. After a throughout assessment, your Physiotherapist will determine how often you need to come in for treatment.


Physiotherapy treatment involves:


  • Education, consultation, health promotion and prevention services.
  • Personalized therapeutic exercise including testing and conditioning.
  • Tissue and manual therapy techniques including massage, spinal and peripheral joint mobilization and manipulation.
  • Physical, electrotherapeutic and mechanical agents and acupuncture.
  • Functional and/or sport-specific exercises.
  • Functional activity and tolerance testing and training.
  • Prescription and application of assistive, adaptive, supportive and protective devices and equipment.


No, Physiotherapists are primary health care professionals and therefore no referral is required to access any of their services. However, some extended health insurance plans do require a referral from a physician in order to provide coverage for these services.


 Yes, you are able to receive physiotherapy care at any clinic of your choosing. 


You may be eligible for OHIP-funded physiotherapy services at Rehabilitation center Toronto if you are a person requiring physiotherapy as a result of a new illness, injury, fall or accident or surgery, or a flare-up of a previous illness or condition, injury or chronic disease where symptoms have become progressively worse leading to a decrease in function or mobility and meet one of the following criteria:


  • You are over the age of 65 or younger than 19 years of age.
  • You have recently been discharged from a hospital after an overnight stay or following outpatient/day surgery for a condition requiring physiotherapy intervention.
  • recipient of Ontario Works or the Ontario Disability Support Program and have an acute injury requiring physiotherapy intervention.


The OHIP-funded physiotherapy program will not cover a person who:


  • Requires long-term rehabilitation or specialized treatment including post-stroke acute rehabilitation.
  • Is eligable under Bundled Care for clinic-based physiotherapy services in relation to a hip or knee replacement.
  • Requires physiotherapy treatment to maintain an existing level of function.
  • Is receiving physiotherapy services for the same condition or diagnosis that is funded by the Provice or through automobilie insurance or WSIB.


If you meet one of the following criteria and are interested in being assessed under the OHIP-funded physiotherapy program, please ensure you provide us a copy of a physician's referral including their OHIP billing number, the date of the referral (must be within the last 3-4 months) and a diagnosis or condition before we book you in for your initial assessment.


Massage Therapy is an intervention involving a range of techniques to manipulate the soft tissues and joints of the body. The purpose of  massage therapy is to prevent, develop, maintain and relieve pain, stress, muscular overuse and many chronic pain syndromes. Massage Therapy services are not covered by OHIP, however most extended health  insurance policies cover this service. 


Acupuncture is a holistic healing technique that originated in ancient China. It involves the insertion of thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body to stimulate energy flow and promote natural healing. 


Acupuncture is commonly used to:


  • Alleviate pain 
  • Reduce stress 
  • Improve sleep 
  • Enhance overall well-being. 


By balancing the body's energy pathways, known as meridians, acupuncture can help address a wide range of conditions, including headaches, digestive disorders, anxiety, and musculoskeletal issues. It is a safe and gentle practice that aims to restore harmony and promote the body's self-healing abilities. 


Acupuncture services provided by a Registered Acupuncturist are not covered by OHIP, however most extended health insurance policies cover this service.


On your initial visit, please bring your physician referral (if you have one) along with any other documentation (investigative medical tests) related to the reason you are coming in for treatment. Please also ensure you wear comfortable clothing in order to properly assess or treat the area in question. 


If you have been involved in a motor vehicle collision physiotherapy should be started as soon able. We will perform a full detailed functional assessment, support you in completing all the preliminary motor vehicle insurance forms and send them directly to your motor vehicle insurance provider for approval.  Once approved, treatment can begin.


An elevator or stairwell can be used to access the second floor. The elevators are located on the main level next to CIBC. 


Unfortunately we do not provide physiotherapy services for patients with WSIB claims.


All of our services are provided by registered health care professionals who are licensed to practice in the Province of Ontario. As such, our services are covered by most extended health care plans.


Provided your extended health care company is set up for direct billing, we do bill extended health insurance companies directly for you. Please ensure you provide us will all the relevant details so we can directly bill for you.


Treatment for temporomandibular (jaw) disorders and facial pain involve using many different techniques including mobilization, soft tissue release, acupuncture, electrotherapeutic modalities combined with specific exercises. 


The method involves diagnosing and treating low back pain through specific movements based on your response to those movements. This technique combined with specific core and function based exercises has been proven effective in treating low back  conditions.

The Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care runs the ADP program to help those who have long-term physical disabilities get the needed mobility aids they require. In most cases, ADP covers 75% of the cost of  an approved device.
